Under Armour Command 2 Lacrosse Head

The Under Armour Command 2 lacrosse head is the 4th edition of the Command line since the original. Although UA keeps the all-weather nylon construction and design consistent, they bring an even better design each time.

However, despite the hype among college lacrosse attackers and midfielders during UA all-American games, there were mixed reviews about Under Armour Command 2 performance on the field. The upgrade was more cosmetic than performance.

However, I tested it on the field myself to give you every detail you will need to know before buying it.

Who’s This Head Made For?

The Under Armour launched the 4th edition of the command series in 2018. The Under Armour Command 2 lacrosse head has a similar design to its predecessor but weighs only 4.8 ounces.

Although it’s lightweight, there is no compromise in stiffness or durability. It has nylon construction with a Glide+ Scoop design. In the 2019-20 season, Command 2 instantly became a famous lacrosse head among top college team attackers and offensive midfielders.

Besides, some design feature updates include a little jewel on the throat, additional texture throughout the side walls, and fins on the rear.

However, let’s see if the scooping, catching, and shooting accuracy of the updated UA command 2 head is worth $90 for an aggressive lacrosse player.

Accuracy of Shot and Pass

The Under Armour Command 2 lacrosse head has the same 3-strut design, face shape, and complete offset as the OG Command head. It has a narrow profile with a vertical throat without much of a pinch in the middle. So, It gave me a very balanced long-distance shooting.

Although the shooting speed was slightly reduced than the Command U as it’s lighter, the feeding was better. I got very accurate and speedy feeding while running and dodging defenders.

Besides, the 18 sidewall holes let me string it up with a mid pocket. But, the string hole pattern has been changed.

The first two holes were smaller than the OG head, while the top third hole was wider. So, I easily passed a sidewall string and a shooter through it.

However, some of my fellows needed help in stringing it up. If you are about to buy this head, you might need to get it pre-strung.

Catching and Cradling

The Under Armour Command 2 lacrosse head features a shorter with a new UA jewel. It allowed a closer hand placement on the shaft, leading to a more secure grip. I confidently dominated catching and cradling as it gave me better control.

However, the side rails are stiff. The stiffness made it difficult to pinch the ball in tight situations. It resulted in an unlikely struggle while catching loose balls during fast breaks.

The rounded scoop and balanced mid pocket kept the ball secure while cradling it on the run. I didn’t face any unwanted bounces and wobbles.

Yet, I found the engineering behind the fins at the back of the head somewhat pointless. Probably it helps with the ground ball pickups.

So, if you like to trade off flexibility for stiffness, the UA Command 2 head is an ideal attacking head with impressive strength and durability. Otherwise, go for Stallion 900 or Nike CEO 3

Checking

UA has reduced the weight of the Command 2 but has improved stiffness. So, it is exceptionally responsive on the field with added durability.

The solid side rails deliver powerful checks and even pop the ground balls out from the opponent’s head pocket. I loved the strength and durability. The chunky pattern and three struts completely absorbed the collision impact, giving me minimal strain.

There was minimal wear and tear after using it for three months. The textured, rounded face has a dimensional build that provides additional string protection on the lip. I strung it with a 7-9 diamond pattern, and there was no damage on the top string, which is somewhat common in other heads.

Thus, if you are a college player who plays at the center forward position or LSM, Under Armour Command 2 lacrosse head is a suitable option. However, FOGOs preferring flexibility over stiffness should opt for StringKing Mark 2F, Nike CEO 3, or ECD Weapon X.

Ground Ball Pickup

The Under Armour Command 2 lacrosse head features a similar Glide+ scoop, which has proved its predecessors to be one of the best in the game.

Under Armour Command 2 Scoop

The scoop is rounded and has indentations for the top string holes. It protected the top string from falling out and let me pick the ground ball without chunking out the turf.

Moreover, the all-weather nylon construction and stiff design provide warp resistance but lack flexibility. I felt like the pocket was also stiffer initially and took some time to break in. Hence, the minimal flexibility and narrow face make it less suitable for face-off middies.
